Between Two Bridges
Varanasi, the sacred city along the Ganges, reveals itself in fragmented realities, where the spiritual and the everyday collide.
spanned by two bridges that lead into the city, the holy river, a flowing narrative of life and death, becomes center and backdrop for century old rituals, traditions and religious fervor. in search of a personal ritual within, i walked along the banks of the Ganges from one bridge to the other, over and over again, where i witnessed the unwavering devotion of pilgrims gathering along the coastline, engaging in prayer and peaceful contemplation, as well as a cynical, commercialized atmosphere. boatmen offering rides, vendors selling goods and services, and cafes and stalls lining the riverbank. this dichotomy, a dance between the holy and the commodified, creates a canvas of contrasts.
as the people turn their gaze towards the Ganges, there was a natural inclination to show the landscape from their point of view and to observe the serene moments amidst the noise.
